Male deaths totalled 171, against an expected 173. Female deaths numbered 146, against an expected 163. Excess deaths registered minus 2 for males and minus 17 for females.

Year to date through 8 May 2026, Northern Ireland saw 7,041 deaths. Males accounted for 50.8% and females 49.2%. Some 67.4% occurred in those aged 75 and over.

Of the year's deaths, 45.5% took place in hospitals, 17.6% in care homes, and 36.9% at homes, hospices, or other sites.

Deaths listing flu or pneumonia on certificates reached 41 that week. The 2026 total stood at 1,312.

Provisional deaths occurring that week, registered by 13 May 2026, totalled 276. Bank holiday closures may have affected registration numbers.
