Poll Shows Strong Backing for Integrated Schools in Fermanagh and Omagh
A recent survey conducted by LucidTalk for the Integrated Education Fund found that 68 per cent of respondents in the Fermanagh and Omagh district support Integrated Education becoming the primary model for schools in Northern Ireland.
The poll collected more than 1,900 responses across Northern Ireland and was balanced for age, gender, geography, and community background.
Sixty-five per cent of respondents also backed cross-sector school mergers and amalgamations to address financial pressures and sustainability concerns.
Paul Caskey OBE, Chief Executive of the Integrated Education Fund, stated that the findings confirm steady public support for Integrated Education.
He noted that many areas still lack Integrated options and that the organisation will continue efforts to expand provision and promote cross-sector collaboration.
One approved cross-sector amalgamation project, Causeway Academy, is scheduled to open in September 2026 through the merger of three schools in the Coleraine area.
The survey results coincide with ongoing discussion about the sustainability of Northern Ireland schools, where around 300 schools fall below recommended enrolment thresholds.
