A couple in Lisbellaw raised more than £8,000 for charity by opening their garden to the public over two afternoons.

Joan and Ian Black opened Clendinning Cottage on the Cloghcor Road to more than 600 visitors as part of the National Garden Scheme.

The proceeds will be split equally between Marie Curie and the National Garden Scheme.

Joan Black said the couple was astonished by the total raised and that they had not run an event like this before.

She said they had nearly dreaded the weekend but ended up enjoying it.

The Blacks chose Marie Curie due to the support it offers families dealing with serious illness.

Local National Garden Scheme representative Pat Cameron helped arrange the event, including insurance and paperwork.

Joan Black thanked volunteers who worked in the kitchen supplying tea and cakes.
