East Londonderry MLA Alan Robinson and MP Gregory Campbell have called for the Coleraine campus of Ulster University to remain central to the institution's three-campus model.

The two DUP representatives met with university leadership on Friday following last month's announcement of a proposed voluntary redundancy scheme that could affect up to 450 positions across Ulster University.

Robinson said the campus supports local jobs and businesses in the north coast area and that students and staff require clarity on courses and the long-term direction of the site.

Campbell said the Coleraine campus must stay central within the university's structure and that concerns over potential reductions in provision have been heightened by recent comments from the Sinn Fein Economy Minister about prioritising the Magee campus.

The representatives said they will continue to press for the protection and strengthening of the Coleraine campus.
