A memorial blanket made of over 3,000 crocheted squares appeared on Wellington Road in Fermanagh at lunchtime. Organisers from the Fermanagh Palestinian Solidarity campaign put it on display with Craftivism for Palestine.

Each six-inch square stands for 10 children killed in Palestine since October 7, 2023. The blanket covers about 600 metres and keeps expanding.

Anna Doyle from Ballyhaunis, County Mayo started the project on May 12 last year. She contacted crafting groups through social media, including TDs, libraries and others across Ireland. Contributions came from Canada, France, the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

Doyle comes from a Jewish background. Her family and some synagogues contributed squares.

Martin McGovern of the Fermanagh Palestinian Solidarity campaign wants the blanket shown in schools to teach children about lives lost daily.

The display ended a tour of all 32 counties in Ireland. Bad weather had delayed the schedule earlier.

Doyle said the project seeks to push the Irish government to pass the occupied territories bill, which remains pending.
