Residents on Old Mountfield Road in Omagh report heavy lorries speeding during construction at the Strule Shared Education Campus. Sean Sheridan, a local resident, stated the problem has lasted seven weeks. Lorries travel the route daily from 7am to 5pm, often above the 30mph limit.

Sheridan noted vehicles hit speeds of 40 or 50mph over speed bumps. He highlighted risks to road users, especially near primary schools where parents drop off and collect children. The narrow road lacks pavements, forcing vehicles onto verges and ditches when passing, which damages the surface.

Sheridan linked frequent trips to spoil removal from the site, suggesting drivers get paid per load. He reported no PSNI monitoring and requested urgent action to prevent casualties.

Cllr Josephine Deehan confirmed she contacted the Department for Infrastructure over resident complaints. She said police have conducted speed checks. Deehan added the road cannot handle regular heavy traffic and verges are subsiding. She awaits a department response.
