Termonmaguirc Historical Society Publishes New Edition of An Tearmann Journal
The Termonmaguirc Historical Society in Tyrone plans to publish An Tearmann XI, the latest edition of its local history journal.
The society formed in the early 1980s. The journal started with Paddy Grogan, who produced the first edition in 1978 and continued until the late 1990s.
An Tearmann means sanctuary or boundary. The name refers to the Termonmaguirc parish, which covers Carrickmore, Creggan, Loughmacrory and nearby townlands.
Over 45 years, the society has issued other works such as The Carrickmore Tradition, Out of the Embers, Glimpses of Carrickmore and Making Our Own Heroes.
A new group of contributors has reactivated the society. They prioritize An Tearmann XI as a nod to Grogan's efforts and to support ongoing history documentation.
The journal contains writings from local authors on subjects including early Christian history, traditions, farming, trade and sports. It spans nearly 170 pages with illustrations.
The publication targets parish residents and others interested in the area's history.
