Canon David Crooks will speak on the history of church buildings in the north west at a meeting in Sion Mills. The event takes place on Thursday, April 16 at 7.30pm in The Stables.

Canon Crooks surveyed more than 120 church buildings across Co Donegal, Tyrone and Derry. He published his findings in the book Living Stones in 2001.

The talk draws from that research. It covers external features such as stonework and spires. It also examines internal elements including stained glass, monuments and furnishings.

Canon Crooks incorporates knowledge of the Irish language in his work. He explains meanings of parish names and their links to local places and history.

The presentation occurs at the monthly meeting of the Sion Mills Buildings Preservation Trust. The trust focuses on local heritage.
