Ministers Lyons and Muir Announce £8.32m for Northern Ireland Community Facilities
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons and Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Minister Andrew Muir announced £8.32 million to improve 243 community facilities across Northern Ireland. The funding comes through the Northern Ireland Community Infrastructure Fund.
The fund started with £4.32 million from the Department for Communities. It now includes an additional £4 million split between the Department for Communities and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. Grants reach groups in every local council area.
Minister Lyons said the fund shows two departments working together to support facilities that serve communities. He noted these buildings, often run by volunteers, provide lasting benefits. Lyons added that he established the fund after seeing the role of community halls in cities, towns, and villages.
Minister Muir said the facilities sustain rural life with spaces for social connection, wellbeing, and local services. He cited strong demand from rural groups for the additional funding. Muir welcomed the departmental collaboration to benefit rural communities.
Project delivery starts in May 2026 after grant acceptance and compliance with conditions. Due to high interest, the Department for Communities develops plans for a future recurring programme.
