Volunteers from two cross-border community groups cleaned a stretch of the N2 road linking Aughnacloy in County Tyrone and Emyvale in County Monaghan during their annual litter pick.

The effort involved members of the Aughnacloy Development Association (ADA) Bloom Project and Emyvale Tidy Towns. They worked along the N2 from Moybridge south towards Emyvale. The route, part of the N2/A5 corridor, handles an estimated 100,000 to 125,000 vehicle movements each week.

Organizers said the amount of litter collected was smaller than at the previous year's event. They suggested this may indicate increased public awareness and respect for the environment.

The groups focused on sections of the road where it was safe for volunteers to work. Rain held off during the morning despite overcast skies.

Motorists passing the work crews showed support with waves, thumbs-up, and occasional horn blasts.

After the clean-up, volunteers gathered for refreshments provided by Truagh Spirit Community Services. Both groups thanked all who took part, the hospitality providers, and the road users who acknowledged their efforts.
