The Department for Infrastructure has confirmed proposed safety improvements at the Duncastle/Dullerton Road junction in the Donemana area of west Tyrone.

DUP MLA Tom Buchanan welcomed the department's written confirmation on Monday. He raised concerns after local resident Maurice Devenny reported several vehicles going off the road at the junction.

Buchanan requested a full assessment from DfI Roads to improve conditions for drivers.

The department's investigation identified needs for renewing all road markings near the junction, including centre lines and 'SLOW' markings. Two faded warning signs will be replaced. The junction radius will be kerbed to mark the road edge, and chevron signs will be added to highlight the bend.

DfI is assessing installation of a vehicle restraint system at the site.

Buchanan stated such a system would help prevent vehicles from veering into the adjacent low-lying field.

The department is also evaluating further works along Duncastle Road toward Donemana. The road narrows there, complicating passage for large vehicles. Stones from ditches fall onto the road, creating hazards for motorists.
