Education Authority Restores Special Needs Summer Schemes After Health Department Provides Nursing Support
The Education Authority has confirmed that summer schemes for children with special needs will take place as scheduled. The Department of Health committed to supplying nursing support at each site.
On Thursday, the Education Authority announced plans to cancel the schemes due to a lack of nursing provision.
Political parties including Alliance and Sinn Féin responded by signing a recall petition, scheduled for discussion on Tuesday.
Further discussions involving the Education Authority, Department of Health, and Department of Education led to the resolution.
The Education Authority stated that nursing support will now be available at every special school summer scheme location. This allows the programmes to run this year.
Safety and well-being of children remain the priority. The authority will work with school principals to finalise planning.
Ongoing efforts aim to establish reliable year-round health care for special schools.
