Magherafelt Magistrates Court disqualified kitchen fitter Eamon Irwin from Tobermore Road from driving for seven days. The court also fined him £200 plus a £15 offender's levy.

The case arose from an incident in a car park on Wood Road, Tobermore, on February 12. Police on mobile patrol in the area found a Transit van parked there at about 9.30pm.

Two males occupied the vehicle with the passenger door open. Internal light led police to suspect drink-driving.

Irwin sat in the driving seat. He provided a breath test that showed a fail.

Defence noted the alcohol reading was not high. Irwin holds three points on his licence already. He had not driven the van.
