Ards and North Down Council Backs PSNI Campaign to Shift Attitudes Toward Women
Ards and North Down Borough Council supports The Power to Change campaign run by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Department of Justice, and the Executive Office. The initiative calls on men and boys in Northern Ireland to examine their attitudes and actions toward women and girls.
The campaign asks men and boys to reject negative views, address improper conduct among peers, and intervene as bystanders against harassment, misogyny, or harmful actions in communities.
PSNI stresses that stopping violence against women and girls depends on involvement from men and boys.
Mayor Councillor Gillian McCollum stated that violence against women and girls does not belong in society. She added that change occurs when men and boys confront harmful attitudes and behaviors. McCollum called the campaign's message vital and urged borough residents to participate to build safer communities.
The council views cultural shifts as key to addressing misogyny and gender-based violence. It backs programs that prompt men and boys to accept responsibility and promote community safety.
