Alliance for Lifelong Learning Event Addresses Northern Ireland Skills Gap
An event convened by Martin Flynn, newly appointed Chair of the Alliance for Lifelong Learning and Chief Executive of OCN NI, focused on collaboration to address skills needs in Northern Ireland. The gathering promoted inclusive learning pathways for people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the skills gap.
The Alliance for Lifelong Learning formed in January 2023 as a cross-sector initiative. Founding partners include The Open University, Open College Network NI, AONTAS, the Forum for Adult Learning NI, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, and CO3. The Department for the Economy has attended every meeting since the start.
Martin Flynn stated that the event showed collaboration's role in building a culture of lifelong learning. He noted insights from partners, input from government officials, and learner perspectives underscored the initiative's purpose. The Alliance aims to improve access, remove barriers, and support learning throughout life.
The event featured an interactive session on lifelong learning collaboration. Participants explored barriers to participation, action priorities, and ways to coordinate efforts across the sector.
