Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald has announced a new research project examining Irish Medium vocational pathways in Northern Ireland.

The initiative originates from the Department for the Economy's Skills Action Plan, which includes a commitment to investigate barriers faced by Irish Medium vocational learners.

Minister Archibald stated that the research will support Irish-Medium learners and promote equitable access to skills and vocational pathways. She noted it will contribute to an inclusive skills ecosystem and assist the department in understanding challenges in accessing skills for employment.

Professor Noel Purdy OBE, Director of Research and Scholarship at Stranmillis University College and the project lead, welcomed the project's commencement. He expressed confidence that it will establish a clearer evidence base for supporting Irish-Medium learners in vocational pathways.

Professor Purdy added that the project will engage key stakeholders, particularly young people, whose input will shape the study's insights and recommendations.
