Celtic Heart Production to Launch Summer Run at Belfast's Waterfront Hall
A new production called Celtic Heart will perform at Belfast's Waterfront Hall from April to September. The show uses traditional music, storytelling and dance to present local culture. It features actors, musicians and dancers from the region in a narrative set in early 1900s industrial Belfast.
Colin Urwin wrote the story of a father recalling his life and a young woman's forbidden love across traditions. Performances will take place in the Waterfront Studio and main auditorium for a total of 21 shows. Tickets are available online.
The Music Yard from Larne produced the show in partnership with Waterfront Hall. Thomas Hamilton of The Music Yard stated that the production covers themes of love, family and identity, with Belfast humour and music from both local cultures, including ballads, jigs and reels.
Rob McConnell, Chief Executive of ICC Belfast, which operates Waterfront Hall and Ulster Hall, called it a showcase of local artists and city history. He noted that it serves as a destination event for visitors as part of the Big Belfast Welcome. McConnell added that the team selected top local talent through auditions for the cast.
