Belfast City Council Proposes City Centre Road Closures for Fleadh Cheoil 2026
Belfast City Council published proposals for road closures in the city centre during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann from 2-9 August 2026. The event expects 800,000 visitors. Closures run from 6am on 2 August to 5am on 10 August. Highest attendance starts 6 August.
City Hall hosts the main stage. Phased closures around it promote public transport use. Limited closures support setup from 30 July to 1 August and takedown from 10-12 August.
Councillor Natasha Brennan, Chair of the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee, stated the council ran engagement events in January and February. She called on residents and businesses to submit feedback on the plans via belfastcity.gov.uk/roadclosures until 6 April.
The festival partners with Comhaltas and Ards CCÉ. Events span venues, outdoor areas and vacant sites across Belfast neighbourhoods. Temporary campsites operate at Ormeau Park and Falls Park for tents, and Titanic Quarter for motorhomes and caravans.
Delivery slots within closures permit venue access. A 24/7 accreditation and logistics hub aids city centre businesses. Emergency services retain access.
Access relies on walking, cycling or public transport. Park and Ride sites on main routes link to Translink shuttles. Further transport information comes from Translink and the council.
A free opening concert at City Hall features Sharon Shannon, Goitse and Blackwater Céilí Band alongside pipe bands and school choirs. The festival returns to Belfast in August 2027. Bank of Ideas applications close 23 March. A hospitality briefing occurs at City Hall from 12pm to 2.30pm that day.
