Fermanagh and Omagh Council Awards £1 Million in Capital Grants to Community Groups
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council awarded £1 million to eight community and voluntary organisations. The grants support enhancements to community infrastructure and facilities.
The funding marks the first year of the council's five-year £5 million Strategic Capital Projects Grant Programme. This programme aids community-led capital developments for long-term benefits to local areas.
Councillor Barry McElduff, chair of the council, supports the capital grant opportunities. He stated the council aims to address rural needs and promote wellbeing in rural communities.
The projects provide inclusive facilities for wider community participation. They aim to future-proof rural facilities, reduce isolation, enhance wellbeing, increase physical activity, and create shared spaces for socialising and exercise.
One recipient, Omagh Tennis Club, received £300,000 for new plans. The grants respond to needs for capital developments and recognise the role of community organisations in health, wellbeing, inclusion, and social connection in rural areas.
