Belfast Council Approves Multiple Housing and Development Projects
Belfast City Council's Planning Committee approved two housing developments in east Belfast. The projects include 35 social homes in two blocks at 45 Park Avenue on the site of the former Mount Masonic Hall. A second site at the former Cabin Hill on Upper Newtownards Road will have 53 homes, with 43 houses and 10 apartments.
Councillors permitted short-term letting during July and August outside term time at student accommodation on York Street and Bradbury Place.
The committee approved a temporary mobile classroom complex at Harberton North Special School on Fortwilliam Park in north Belfast. The setup will support future refurbishment and extension of the school.
An eight-storey grade A office development received approval on a car park site east of Lanyon Place station. It includes seven levels of offices above ground-floor retail and business space.
Councillors also approved converting a vacant warehouse, the former Decco building on Redcar Street, into an indoor padel court facility. The site will include a cafe, changing rooms and a gym.
Ryan Murphy, chair of the council's Planning Committee, stated the approvals address accommodation needs and benefit school communities, office workers and businesses.
