A 28-year-old man from Greenvale Park in Magherafelt faces a one-month driving ban after police clocked him at 106mph on the Glenshane Road on December 24.

Connlaoth McElhone appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday charged with speeding.

Police spotted the vehicle moving fast, followed it, and recorded speeds reaching 106mph.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott told the court McElhone was making deliveries that day and had hurried on a quiet road section.

District Judge Ted Magill stated the speed was too high and required disqualification for McElhone's safety and others.

The judge imposed a £300 fine alongside the ban.
