Antrim Magistrates Court in Ballymena handled cases involving two motorists caught exceeding speed limits on the M2 motorway near Antrim town.

Jason Michael Howell, 37, from Lepper Street in Belfast, drove at 120mph in a 70mph zone on February 7. He entered a guilty plea to speeding but not guilty to dangerous driving. The court adjourned the dangerous driving charge to March 24 for scheduling a contest.

Harry Orr, 21, from Ballyportery Road near Cloughmills, reached 108mph in a 70mph zone at Rathbeg at 11.30pm on December 9, 2025. He held a clean driving record prior to the incident.

A defence barrister stated Orr had been sleeping when called by friends stranded in Belfast. The barrister noted Orr's regret and the low traffic volume at the time.

District Judge Nigel Broderick remarked that low traffic does not excuse high speeds, as other drivers may feel safer then. He expressed strong disapproval of speeds over 100mph. Orr received a one-month driving ban and a £200 fine.
