Wildfowlers Complete Litter Pick on Lough Neagh Shores and Plan 2026 Initiatives
A wildfowling association formed in December 2025 carried out a voluntary litter pick along Lough Neagh shores on 28 February. The effort covered locations including Ballyronan, Oxford Island, Gawley's Gate, Maghery, Washing Bay, Aughamulla, Ardboe Old Cross, Kinturk, Rams Island and Cranfield.
Mid Ulster District Council and Armagh and Banbridge District Council supplied skips for waste removal. Local wildfowlers and other volunteers completed the work.
The Lough Neagh and Lough Beg Wildfowling and Conservation Association aims to preserve wildfowling heritage, protect habitats, advance education on conservation and promote local heritage.
A group spokesperson stated the committee holds passion for habitat restoration. The association has initial plans for 2026 to make a positive impact on the loughs.
Further litter picks are scheduled later this year after the nesting season. These will extend to Lough Beg and additional Lough Neagh shorelines.
The spokesperson noted that conservation efforts support habitats, duck populations and the future of responsible wildfowling traditions on both loughs.
