Record Bull Sale from 2006 Recalled in Lisnaskea
On March 4, 2006, Lisnaskea breeder Malcolm Suphlis sold Waterview Victorious at the Charolais Club sale in Dungannon for 12,000 guineas. The price established a Northern Ireland record for a beef bull. Gerry Law of Kesh bought the bull, a son of Doonally New from the Waterview herd.
Suphlis expressed delight at the sale price after years of selective breeding. He had started his pedigree Charolais herd in 1987 with one cow added to his commercial suckler operation. The herd emphasized quality over numbers.
Earlier successes included supreme championships at a Portadown sale in April 2000 and the next month with sons of Oldstone Egbert. These occurred during the BSE crisis when beef markets were low. In March 2003, a Simpsons Gregg son from Waterview Lorna won the junior championship at Dungannon.
Waterview Victorious came from the ten-year-old cow Waterview Lorna. Another bull by Doonally New from the same herd sold for 4,800 guineas that day. Both traced ancestry to foundation cow Stainfonth Annabel. The pair averaged 5,800 guineas.
Suphlis attended the sale despite his wife Rosemary's impending birth. Their son was born the following Wednesday.
