A Simmental bull named Gillview Ranger sold for 10,000gns at the British Simmental Cattle Society sale held at Dungannon Farmers Mart on March 27. The sale took place in Dungannon, County Tyrone.

Breeder Ryan Gilmour of the Gillview herd achieved this price, marking the first five-figure sum for a Simmental bull at a society sale in Northern Ireland. The previous record at this Dungannon sale stood at 7200gns for Corrick Pressley the year before.

Judge Robert Forde of the Mullynock herd in Tempo named Gillview Ranger supreme champion in the pre-sale show. Forde described the October 2024-born bull as long, clean, and well-muscled with qualities to produce market weaners and serve as a stock bull.

Derek Reaney, a suckler farmer from Plumbridge in County Tyrone, bought the bull. Reaney runs 75 to 80 suckler cows of Limousin and Saler crosses and plans to use Gillview Ranger to breed replacements.

Gillview Ranger descends from AI sire Coose Lincoln (ET) EX 95 and Raceview Millie Fairytale, a daughter of Kilbride Farm Delboy 12. The bull ranks in the top 15 percent of the Simmental breed for maternal milk and top five percent for eye muscle area.

Ryan Gilmour serves as secretary of the NI Simmental Breeders Club, which marks its 55th anniversary this year. Gilmour noted the bull's quality from birth and expressed delight at the record price ahead of his wedding.

Eight bulls cleared at the sale with an average price of £5814.37, up from the previous year.
