Northern Ireland Resident Among Passengers Returning from Dubai on Emergency Flight
Passengers including a resident from Northern Ireland arrived at Dublin Airport on Thursday evening on the second flight from Dubai since conflict in the Middle East disrupted air travel. Dympna Mackin from Mayobridge, Co Down, landed after multiple failed attempts to return home from a birthday trip with her husband.
Mackin reunited with her family in the arrivals area. She had missed her children during the delay and described the experience as overwhelming upon landing.
The flight carried workers who had lived in the United Arab Emirates for years along with holidaymakers. Air space closures and missile strikes in the region, including at Dubai's airport, led to the cancellations.
Further flights from the Middle East are scheduled to reach Dublin on Friday. These include a government charter from Oman carrying around 280 passengers.
Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee stated that hundreds or more than 1,000 people could arrive in Dublin by the end of the week.
