A 21-year-old Fermanagh woman has raised £3,642 for dementia services after organising a tabletop quiz in memory of her grandfather.

Kacey Gilham, from Fermanagh, chose to forgo a traditional 21st birthday party and instead held a fundraising event at Lisbellaw Parish Hall for her late grandfather, Jack Thomas 'Jock' Gilham, who died earlier this year after living with dementia.

More than 90 people attended the quiz, and over 35 raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and individuals. Proceeds will be split between the Dementia Companion Service at South West Acute Hospital, Alzheimer's Society Northern Ireland, and the South West Partnership.

Kacey said she was inspired by her grandfather's own love of hosting quizzes. Her grandmother Selina Gilham said the community response exceeded expectations, with people donating prizes and money on the night.

The funds will support dementia patients and their families. At South West Acute Hospital, donations have previously been used to buy items such as pyjamas, iPads, sensory boards, radios and lights. Alzheimer's Society Northern Ireland will use its share for local advice and support groups in Fermanagh, including at Fermanagh House.

Brendan Cassidy, a Dementia Companion at South West Acute Hospital who knew Jock, said the donation will make a significant difference, helping provide practical and therapeutic items for patients in crisis.

Kacey said many attendees have asked about future fundraising events, and she feels the quiz brought the community together.
