Young-Onset Dementia Support Group Meets Monthly in Enniskillen
A peer support group for people living with young-onset dementia has started meeting in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. The initiative, led by the Alzheimer’s Society, is designed for those who received a diagnosis before the age of 65, as well as their families and carers.
The group offers a facilitated environment where participants can share experiences and form social connections. It is a pilot programme aiming to address the distinct challenges faced by younger individuals with dementia, a condition more commonly associated with later life.
Meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at Fermanagh House, Broadmeadow Place, Enniskillen. The first session was in June, and monthly gatherings are scheduled through December. Booking in advance is essential.
Dementia Advisers Rita O’Loughlin and Martin Bradley are the points of contact for more information or to reserve a place. They can be reached on 07889 148927 and 07725 475715 respectively.
Across the United Kingdom, an estimated 40,000 people live with young-onset dementia, according to the Alzheimer’s Society. The new group complements existing services in Fermanagh, including a Dementia Café, a carers support group, and other programmes.
