A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Downpatrick, County Down, on Tuesday evening, causing a fire while a woman and three children were inside.

The incident happened shortly before 8.30pm on Struell Avenue. Police said a glass bottle containing petrol was thrown at the property, igniting a blaze. No one was injured.

A woman and three children were in the house at the time and escaped harm. Police Sergeant Stewart described the event as frightening for those involved.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life with intent and remains in custody. An investigation is underway.
