Detectives classify a fire at a flat in Downpatrick's Galhaun area as arson with intent to endanger life. The blaze took place between 1.20am and 1.30am on Friday 6 March. Police state a wheelie bin was set against the front door and ignited.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene. Crews put out the fire, which damaged the door. A man inside escaped by climbing through a window.

Detective Sergeant Emerson confirmed the wheelie bin placement and ignition in that timeframe. He said fire service members extinguished the flames and noted the man's window escape. Emerson stated investigations continue to clarify the incident circumstances.
