Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced an £816,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the Ballyrobin Road at Killead, near Belfast International Airport.

The works will cover approximately two kilometres from the A26 Killead Roundabout to the A57 Airport Roundabout. The scheme aims to improve the strength and surface quality of the road for residents, businesses and other road users.

Kimmins said the investment would benefit the Antrim area and thanked residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience. She said the resurfacing work was essential for connecting businesses and communities.

The project began on Monday 28 September with daytime lane closures between 9.30am and 4.30pm, using temporary traffic lights. Full overnight closures are scheduled from Monday 5 October to Friday 23 October, operating between 7pm and 6am each night.

Airport-bound traffic will receive priority during daytime lane closures. Access to the terminal and airport car parks will remain available from the Antrim town direction via the A57 Dublin Road, Antrim Road and Airport Road.

During the overnight closures, traffic approaching the airport from Killead Roundabout will be diverted via the A26 Oldstone Road, A6 Belfast Road, A6 Belmont Road and A57 Dublin Road. A separate HGV diversion will use the A57 Ballyrobin Road, A6 Antrim and Belfast Road, A6 Belmont Road and A57 Dublin Road to avoid a low bridge on Oldstone Road.

The Department for Infrastructure says steps have been taken to accommodate local access and Translink bus and school services throughout the scheme. Drivers are advised to expect delays and comply with temporary traffic restrictions.

The works are expected to be substantially complete by Friday 30 October 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions.
