Choice Housing has announced plans to invest £8.5 million in new social housing in the Omagh area. The housing association has issued a tender seeking a developer to acquire land and construct the properties.

The development is expected to deliver up to 40 homes, though the number could increase depending on the quality and quantity of tender submissions received. The total value of the contract is estimated at £8.52 million.

The project is part of the Social Housing Development Programme, a collaboration between the Department for Communities, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, and housing associations. The programme aims to increase the supply of social housing across Northern Ireland.

The deadline for tender submissions is October 16. The contract is scheduled to run from December 2026 to June 2028.

Earlier this year, a separate housing association issued a £4.75 million tender for social housing in the Omagh area. Arbour Housing currently manages around 1,300 homes, mainly in Portadown, Lurgan, and Newry. The Omagh project is believed to be the organisation's first in County Tyrone.

The earlier tender specified that homes could be delivered across multiple sites or on a single site. However, to ensure efficient housing management, any single site must provide at least five housing units.
