The body of a man was discovered inside a burning car in Portadown, County Armagh, on Saturday night.

Police received a report of a vehicle on fire on Harford Street at approximately 10pm on 8 August. Officers attended alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the flames.

Ammunition Technical Officers were also called to the scene and confirmed there was no risk to the public. The fire caused significant damage to the car, smashed windows, and scorched a neighbouring property.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. They have appealed for anyone who witnessed the event to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1764 08/08/26.

DUP Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart expressed her sympathies to the man’s family. She urged the public to avoid speculation on social media and allow the PSNI space to investigate. She commended the emergency services and said she has been liaising with police.
