A suspected pollution incident in the Inver River, Larne, was reported to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) on the afternoon of July 24.

Reports indicated dead fish in the water underneath the Circular Road flyover. Further reports of the same incident were received subsequently.

A Water Quality Inspector attended the site and confirmed the presence of dead fish and discolouration of the river. A water sample was collected for analysis, and DAERA Inland Fisheries were notified.

The Department encouraged the public to report suspected water pollution to the Northern Ireland Environment Agency’s 24-hour incident hotline on 0800 807060. Less urgent concerns can be submitted via email or through the online reporting system.
