Two women have been charged and are due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 July in connection with an arson and burglary in the Gregg Street area.

Police responded to a report shortly before 4.35pm on Saturday evening, 25 July, of two women outside an apartment building threatening to break windows. Officers arrested a 34-year-old woman and a 38-year-old woman on suspicion of threats to damage property and attempted criminal damage.

Nearby residents then alerted police to a fire at the rear of the apartment. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.

The 34-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life with intent, possession of a Class C controlled drug, and burglary. The 38-year-old, who resisted arrest and kicked out at officers, was further arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life with intent, criminal damage, possessing an article with a blade or point in a public place, resisting police, and burglary.

Both women remained in custody. On Sunday evening police confirmed they had been charged. The 34-year-old faces counts of arson endangering life with intent, possession of a Class C drug, attempted criminal damage, and burglary with intent to cause unlawful damage. The 38-year-old has been charged with arson endangering life with intent, criminal damage, attempted criminal damage, resisting police, possessing an article with a blade or point, two counts of burglary (one with intent to steal and one with intent to cause damage), and threats to damage property.
