An Omagh-based support group for families living with Down syndrome has received an £8,000 donation from a local family in memory of their brother, Robert Dukelow.

William Dukelow and Phyllis Gordon-Harlow made the gift to the Omagh Area Down Syndrome Support Group to honour their brother and recognise the group's work.

The group's chair, Emma Kerrigan, said the donation would make a significant difference to its services, which include speech and language therapy, individual swimming lessons, and regular social events for about 30 families from Omagh and the surrounding area.

Robert Dukelow spent most of his life in Omagh. He attended the Omagh Special Care School shortly after it opened in the mid-1960s and later attended the Omagh Centre. He worked at the Silverbirch Hotel and Omagh Library, where he was well known. He died in 2021 at the age of 62.

The donation will help the group continue and expand its activities for children, adults, and families affected by Down syndrome across the district.
