Police in Lisburn and Castlereagh have seized 12 electric scooters that were being used illegally on public roads.

During a two-hour operation, officers from the Lisburn City and rural neighbourhood teams, supported by probationary support officers, stopped 12 individuals riding e-scooters. The scooters were confiscated and will be destroyed, and a number of reports will be forwarded to the Public Prosecution Service.

Police also issued a reminder that e-scooters, scramblers, go-peds, buzz boards, quads, and mini-motos generally do not comply with construction and use legislation and vehicle standards. These vehicles are restricted to off-road use only.

Anyone using an e-scooter on a public road must hold a driving licence and have insurance. The vehicle must be registered with the DVLNI, display a number plate, and have obligatory lamps, reflectors, and rear markings fitted.

The police added they will continue proactive operations targeting illegal use of such vehicles.
