Translink has applied for planning permission to build a temporary bus engineering workshop at its Tamlaght Road site in Omagh. The application, submitted to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, seeks approval for a temporary bus engineering base, garage and workshop.

The facility would remain operational while construction proceeds on a permanent £19 million redevelopment of the depot. Work on the major project is expected to start in 2027, according to the Department for Infrastructure.

The permanent scheme involves erecting a two-storey bus maintenance building with a bus wash, demolishing existing structures and upgrading parking to accommodate the current fleet.

To keep services running during construction, Translink plans to clear the site and install a temporary engineering workshop. Proposals include three bus bays inside the temporary workshop, 21 car parking spaces for staff and visitors, 30 bus parking spaces and 14 overnight bus parking spaces.

The Tamlaght Road site has been used by Translink, and previously Ulsterbus, for more than five decades.

Pedestrian facilities would feature dropped kerbs to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, addressing the needs of people with mobility or visual impairments and age-related requirements. Bicycle parking is also included in the plans.
