The Department of Education has applied for planning permission for two additional car parks at the Strule Shared Education Campus on the Gortin Road in Omagh.

The proposed car parks, located near the Gortin Road and Strathroy Road entrances, would provide almost 100 vehicle spaces.

Officials say the extra capacity is needed because travel patterns among staff and pupils have changed since the original campus plans were approved 12 years ago.

The campus, which is currently under construction, is scheduled to open in September 2028. It will bring together Omagh CBS, Omagh Academy, Sacred Heart College, Loreto Grammar School and Omagh High School. Arvalee School and Resource Centre has already been operating on the site for more than a decade.

A planning document from consultancy Tetra-Tech states that sustainable transport remains central to the campus design, and the new parking is intended to support broader options such as walking, cycling and public transport.

The development will include new pedestrian connections, street lighting, and integration with existing green spaces, planting schemes and links to the River Strule. Planners say the car parks are not expected to harm local residential amenity.
