Two men were rescued by coastguard crews on Monday afternoon after their jet ski broke down on the River Blackwater.

Nigel Scott, owner of Viscounts Restaurant in Dungannon, and his friend Mike from Belfast were travelling near Coney Island when weeds fouled the craft's propeller shaft, bringing it to a sudden stop. The jet ski then began drifting towards rocks, but the water remained calm.

Scott first called a friend on another jet ski for assistance, but that vessel also suffered engine failure and was forced to return to base. A 999 call was then made, and coastguard personnel from Oxford Island responded.

The crew towed the pair safely to shore. Scott praised the rescuers for their professionalism and friendly manner throughout the operation.

Following the incident, Scott invited the coastguard crew to a complimentary meal at his restaurant in recognition of their help.
