Dundrum Rowers Rescue Jet Skier from Cold Waters in Inner Bay
Five members of Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club rescued a local man from Dundrum Inner Bay after he fell from his jet ski on Saturday afternoon.
Carolyn Rooney, Jackie Barbour, Rosemary Martin, Bernadette McDowell, and Aideen McLaughlin were conducting a training exercise when they saw an object in the distance. They identified it as the man's adrift jet ski. His young daughter had reached the shore using her lifejacket whistle for help.
The man struggled in the cold water suffering from shock. The rowers approached and towed him alongside their boat by having him hold an oar. They brought him to shore where paramedics and teams from Newcastle and Kilkeel Coastguard took over.
The club stated that its members showed calmness, teamwork, and skill during the incident. A club spokesperson noted the crew responded immediately to the person in difficulty and assisted him safely to land.
