A new book gathering the hopes of 62 women for Irish reunification will be launched in Belfast next month.

Titled ‘Women’s Voices, Hopes for a New Ireland’, the publication is produced by Sinn Féin’s Commission on the Future of Ireland. It will be unveiled by party president Mary Lou McDonald at Áras Uí Chonghaile on Monday 4th August at 1pm as part of the west Belfast festival Féile an Phobail.

The volume was compiled by Grace McDermott and Aoife Ferguson and contains written pieces, poetry, song lyrics and artwork. Contributors include women from across Ireland and the diaspora.

Ms McDonald said the work highlights the experiences of women who have been marginalised, and insisted that women’s voices are essential as Ireland enters a period of significant change. She described the book as timely and expressed hope that it would contribute to the democratic achievement of a new republic.
