Documentary Follows Fermanagh Family's Campaign for Answers Over Daughter's Death
A documentary set to air follows the family of a County Fermanagh woman who died in Monaghan as they continue to seek answers about her death.
Kelly Lynch, 23, from Lisnaskea, was found in the Ulster Canal on St Patrick's Day 2024. Her body was discovered around 30 hours after she was last seen following a night out.
The film, titled The Girl in the Water, will be broadcast on RTÉ One on Wednesday 8 July 2026. It traces the efforts of her parents, Julieanne and Sean Lynch, to understand what happened in their daughter's final hours.
An initial post-mortem concluded Ms Lynch died by drowning. A subsequent review by a second pathologist pointed to hypothermia. A third assessment, carried out by Dr Fintan Garavan, an Irish-trained pathologist, rejected both explanations and found that she had most likely died after a violent attack.
Dr Garavan said injuries he observed raised questions and did not fit typical accident scenarios.
The documentary also features James Brannigan, a retired PSNI detective who founded Katie's Trust, a group that supports families who are dissatisfied with investigation outcomes.
Julieanne Lynch described the family's ongoing effort to raise awareness of Kelly's death and their determination to find answers.
