Funeral service held for child killed in Newry road incident
Mourners gathered at St Brigid's Church in Newry on Saturday for the funeral of Kourtney McCormick, a child who died following a road traffic incident.
Kourtney McCormick was fatally injured on June 21 when she was involved in a collision with a black Ford Tourneo van in the Springfarm Heights area. She was taken to hospital but died with her parents present.
At the service, her siblings presented items that were meaningful to her, including a housecoat, a school folder, a flower lei reflecting her fondness for the film Moana, a teddy bear, and a toy dog symbolising her love of animals. The family had asked attendees to wear bright colours.
The officiating priest described Kourtney as a child who brought magic to her family during her short life. He recalled how she enjoyed running up and down the aisle at church.
Her sister Jasmine McCormick told those present that her sister was a joyful and loving presence who brightened every room she entered. She described her as full of life, innocence, and warmth.
A fundraising page established after the incident has collected more than £13,000 to support the family.
