Couples with children formed the largest share of households in Northern Ireland in the first quarter of 2026. They accounted for 33 per cent of all homes between January and March.

One-person households and couples without children each made up 25 per cent of the total.

Official figures published on 25 June also highlighted employment patterns within households. Some 55 per cent of homes were classed as work rich, where every adult aged 16 or over was in employment.

At the other end, 16 per cent of households were workless, meaning no adult was employed or actively seeking work.
