Primary pupils outline hopes and concerns as secondary school transition approaches
P7 pupils at St. Ronan’s Primary School are preparing to move to secondary education at three different Enniskillen schools in the coming weeks.
The majority of the class will attend St. Kevin’s College, which is located beside the primary school. Others have places confirmed at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, while one pupil is set to start at St. Fanchea’s College.
Pupils expressed interest in a wider curriculum, naming subjects such as science, home economics, PE, geography, technology and drama. Some also highlighted specific activities like camogie, football, and a rock-climbing wall that they look forward to.
Several children discussed long-term career ambitions. One boy hopes to become an international chef and is keen to study home economics, while another is considering work as a biologist, scientist or doctor. A third pupil said she was thinking less about a fixed career and more about after-school sports, including soccer, camogie and Gaelic games.
Alongside excitement, students acknowledged fears. Homeworks were a common concern, with one girl saying she did not like them but accepted they had to be done. Others pointed to maths as a worry, and some mentioned friendship changes. One pupil described apprehension about potential bullying.
Many in the class said they will miss current teachers, naming Ms. Crawford, Mr. Hanna, Ms. Curry and Mr. McDonagh as staff who made a lasting impression. However, most expressed confidence about making new friends and adapting to the larger school setting.
