Country singer Lisa McHugh, who resides in County Fermanagh, has returned to live performance after a year-long hiatus caused by two neurological conditions.

She appeared at the Farmers Bash event on Belfast's Ormeau Road, her first show since being diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

Trigeminal Neuralgia produces sudden, severe facial pain. McHugh was hospitalised last year after temporarily losing the use of both legs and was subsequently diagnosed with FND, a disorder that disrupts how the brain and nervous system communicate.

The condition required her to relearn walking with a frame. At times she was unable to carry her two young children, Milo, now 4, and Hallie, 2.

In a social media post, McHugh described the past 11 months as the toughest of her life and admitted there were times she doubted she would ever perform again. She said returning to the stage felt special because she was doing what she loves most.

Previously she explained that stress was a major factor, with family worries and her daughter Hallie being unwell taking a toll. She intends to continue performing but will carefully manage her energy and will not resume the intense schedule that preceded her illness.
