Driver caught at 121mph on A6 banned for three months
A 41-year-old man has been banned from driving for three months after he was caught travelling at 121mph on the A6 in Northern Ireland.
Mark Simon Verschuur of Silverbrook Park in Newbuildings admitted the speeding offence when he appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court. Police detected him driving at 121mph at 3.30pm on October 18, 2025.
Defence solicitor Sinead Rogan told the court that conditions were dry and the road was relatively quiet at the time. She said Verschuur was performing a welfare check on a friend who was highly distressed and that his employment would be at risk if he lost his licence.
District Judge Suzanne Rice said that regardless of conditions, no road permitted driving faster than 70mph. She noted Verschuur had four previous convictions for speeding recorded between 2005 and 2016.
Alongside the three-month disqualification, Judge Rice imposed a £400 fine.
