A motorist caught travelling at 104 miles per hour in a 70mph zone has been fined £450 and given six penalty points. Kyle Douglas, 40, of St. George's Gardens in Belfast, was charged with speeding and driving without a licence on December 10 last year.

His defence solicitor, Paddy Clay, told the court the licence had expired and had not been renewed. Mr Clay said the excessive speed was a brief lapse of attention while driving his son’s high-performance vehicle.

District Judge Suzanne Rice stated that the speed put both Douglas and other road users at risk. She noted such a speed would normally attract a driving ban. However, because Douglas pleaded guilty and had a clean record, she imposed points and a fine instead.

The court ordered Douglas to pay £450.
