The Business Services Organisation marked World Blood Donor Day by confirming the launch of a new electronic blood tracking system for Northern Ireland.

The Blood Production and Tracking (BPaT) project will introduce a regional vein-to-vein system covering donor management, blood production, and tracking. Rollout is scheduled to start in September 2026.

Once complete, the system will provide a fully integrated electronic record from donation through to transfusion. The project is led by BSO's Blood Production and Tracking team.

The BSO also expressed gratitude to voluntary donors, whose regular donations are described as vital to maintaining a stable blood supply.
